Happy Due Date!

It's hard to believe, but the boys' due date is finally here! Our little dumplings were originally scheduled to arrive in the world today, March 25, 2012.  Obviously God had other plans for them as they're already nine weeks old, but Andrew and John are doing extremely well and continue to be a huge joy in our lives.

It's impossible to imagine what the last nine weeks would have been like if I were still pregnant.  If I was that big at 30 weeks, there's no way my body could have possibly carried three babies this long.  The pregnancy went so quickly and seems so long ago that sometimes I can't believe it actually happened.

The boys are getting bigger each day which makes us both happy and sad at the same time - we hate to see these days fly by!  They're starting to sleep for longer stretches at night and are more awake during the day but still spend a lot of time napping.  Of course there are days when we're tired, but it's nothing a little coffee can't cure.

Here are a couple pictures of our big two-month-olds!  We head to the pediatrician this week so we'll have weights to share later.

The Music Man

It looks like we might have a little musician on our hands!  This morning John was particularly fussy after spitting up several times, but Ryan was able to calm him down and get him smiling again.  So cute!

Spring has sprung

Spring is here!   Well, at least for now...the weather these past few days has been absolutely gorgeous, but I'm trying to prepare myself for the possibilty of more snow in the next few months.  This is just too nice to last!  For now, we've been soaking it up and enjoying every minute of it.

Today Ryan and I took John and Andrew for their first walk with the stroller.  It was warm, there was no wind, the sun was shining, so it was just perfect.  We took them to one of our favorite running paths, so it was really neat to walk that same familiar path for the first time as a family of four.

With Daylight Savings time this past weekend, we worried about how John and Andrew would adjust to the time change. They both made the switch without any problems and have stayed pretty true to their four-hour feeding schedule. We're finding that with two babies, it might be a little tougher to get them to sleep through the night...at least at the same time. One of the first "rules of multiples" that people shared with us is that when you feed one, you feed the other - even if that means waking them up. I guess that means they won't be sleeping through the night until they're BOTH ready.

The only other news is that despite all our efforts to keep the house germ-free, Ryan, Andrew, and I have all had colds in the last two weeks. Andrew seems to be at the tail-end of it and has done much better these last few days. His little cough was enough to send us to the peditrician - we didn't want to overreact, but figured it was better to be safe than sorry. Fortunately it wasn't anything serious, and the doctor said he'd be fine. John has managed to avoid it so far, so we're hoping he's in the clear.

Whoops...I just glanced at the clock and it's time for baths. I gotta go! Hopefully more pictures coming soon!

Today's Check-up

We had another quick visit to the peditrician today and were happy to find that the boys are growing like weeds! They've almost doubled their weight since birth, and they both gained almost a pound since last week. We must be doing something right! Here are their stats...

Doc visit 2/28: 7 lbs 10 oz
Doc visit 3/7: 8 lbs 8 oz

JOHN
Birth weight 1/22: 3 lbs 10.5 oz
Doc visit 2/28: 6 lbs 4 oz
Doc visit 3/7: 7 lbs 1 oz

The First Week Home

What they say is definitely true - time flies when you're having fun! The last week has been a blast - busy and chaotic at times - but so much fun.  We've already lost count of how many diapers we've gone through in the first week, but we could now probably change the boys with our eyes closed...which I guess we kind of do each night!

Andrew and John and becoming pros at eating, sleeping, and looking cute while doing both.  They're pretty close to a consistent 4-hour feeding schedule, but occasionally still wake up a little early to eat.  It's no secret that Ryan and I are fairly organized people to begin with, but we've quickly discovered that with more than one baby, a schedule is a must!  We know there will always be exceptions, but if we didn't work to sync their schedules, we'd be feeding them 24-7.

We've been trying to establish a pattern of eat-play-sleep during the day and so far it seems to work well most of the time.  At their age, "play" time really just means trying to keep their eyes open with some tummy time, a walk around the house, or a book.  They're now officially 37 weeks, and it's impossible to imagine how huge I would have been if I were still pregnant at this point in time.  It's hard to believe that their chronological age is already six weeks!

The first week has flown by and I'm guessing that time doesn't slow down from here on out!  I'll do my best to keep the blog updated with more details as the days go by.  Here are a few pictures for you to enjoy that I took today!
